TW says:

"A premium rum that is distilled from sugar cane and then blended for rich fruit, spice, and vanilla flavors."

Does the bottle mention added flavors, i.e. is it meant as a spiced rum?

Sames prices at the Total Wine in Laurel MD for the Seales stuff. What is Alleyne? ******* Capn's Log : We are referring to Alleyne Arthur's Special Barbados Rum, which is now made by Richard Seale at their Foursquare Distillery. It is a Best Buy, and earned a terrific rating at our review, above...

TW in the DC area (Laurel, MD, specifically) also has them. I suspect based on their rep with whisky, etc, that their rums are in fact unaltered. $70-$90 though....

How about 1 unit?

Capn's Log: That's the idea, anyone can participate in this group purchase for one or any number of units.

Now:

Start: 25 units, less
Jimbo (3): 22 units, less
Hassouni (1): 21 units left.

I tend to agree about tolerating color - Smith & Cross for example is such a fantastic product, and so lightly colored (I mean they haven't tried to make it look like it spent year after year in a barrel) that I still count it as unaltered. I raised a question with Jimbo about Myer's Legend, whi...

I'm quite fond of it as-is, or in a cocktail. Drinking some neat now, in fact!

Interesting that it comes from a bulk-only distiller. How prevalent is that in the industry?

List of 100% pot still rums

Is there such a list on the Rum Project? If not, let's create one! I don't know the details of various distillers, (except for El Dorado, who are pretty open about it, seemingly), so I was hoping the resident experts could chime in.

Let's start with:

Smith & Cross
Scarlet Ibis

Is David Seale Richard Seale's relative, or is it the same person? Edit: nevermind, I saw that Richard is MD, but David is chairman. So can we expect this to live up to the Seales' standard of pure, unaltered, real rum? Might it be a worthy competitor to Barbancourt in the cane juice category? *****...

Jimbo,

I got a bottle of this at your recommendation and it's certainly something else. Just wondering if you stand by your ultra-high rating given the recent talk of altered rums and additives, etc.

So, who makes Scarlet Ibis? Is Angostura the only producer left on Trinidad? And if it is Angostura, do they also do the blending and aging?

If WN doesn't have dunder, where does that wonderful funk come from? On an additional note, something I've long wondered - has anyone barrel aged some WN overproof? Either in a mini-barrel, or in a bottle with barrel staves? How might it turn out - anything like the legendary 17 year WN of Trader Vi...

Are you sure about Doorly's XO? It seems to me like there is caramel added for flavor.

Also: for unaltered, surely Smith & Cross.

*******
Capn's Log: Absolutely, positively - XO is pure. Seale is well known as one of the very few distillers who refuses to alter his rum.
