Great info. I did a Single malt Whisky tasting today actually and the Texas single malt was part of it. I actually would rate it the highest of all the single malts tasted even though it was by far the youngest. The one I thought I would like more a 17 year Balvenie rum cask aged single malt was fla...

Yes indeed. The 10 G/L was noticeable and the only US craft rum to date that has measured noticeable additives. They just did a major overhaul on their product and labeling but it was absent of this information. They tout themselves as being obsessive about craft rum production. My thoughts as a cra...

I bought a bottle of this some years back. It was always hard for me to tell whether the dark spot that settled on the bottom of the bottle was additives or signs of none chill-filtration. I'm guessing the prior. Save yourself some coin and get some Ron Centenario 20 or 25.

Colorado High mountain rum... AKA the Zacapa of US craft rum

Hydro Test So today I cracked open the Montanya Platino. It was hand numbered batch #289. The age statement is one year and the producer confirmed 12 months of aging in oak. First thing I did was hit it with the titanic 30-40% hyrdro. It measured 37.1% ABV on the Hydro and 18.7C in temperature. Thi...

Yeah. I was kinda pissed when I found out about the honey additive. The bottle has no statement at all about adding honey. The bottle does have a true age statement on it. It does tout pure pot distillation, mountain spring water, and USA first press sugar cane, all things craft rum lovers are into....

Craft Rum Dept: Montanya rum updated

Montanya rum out of Colorado have change quite a bit since their initial releases. Sporting updated packaging and age statements. They have 3 rums. The white rum aged 1 year in a barrel that held their Colorado Whisky. The gold rum aged 1 year in a barrel that held their Colorado whisky for 2-5 year...

The Cola for the Zin cask hit about 1 month ago so I'm not sure how soon we will see it state side. There is also another COLA, notice that this is Mark IV. Mark III hit about the data base 3 months ago. It's a cask strength 59% ABV, 11 years old, all aged only in Bourbon casks with a 2004 distillat...

I remember being some what impressed by the new bottles of this brand released in the last few years. It replaced the age statement with "slow aged". To those of us we took this in stride assuming the product was aged properly. I bought a 18 bottle for 50 something dollars and probably ove...

Questionable dept: Panama Pacific rum

I saw this new rum online and then 3 or 4 bottles of the 9 expression at a small local store to my surprise. I picked up one of the 9, I'll do some more sniffing around for the 23 version at larger stores near that one this weekend. The 9 year I bought locally was about 40 dollars. It appears to be ...

The main issue here was the oak on the rum. After consideration of the barrel I have I would say it is heavy on the oak. I will hold on saying it is so overly done on the oak to be unpleasing but the oak on it is the among the most fierce I have had on a rum. This being a single barrel spirit, is mo...

Cockspur 130 proof

I thought I would mention a great Bajan over proof rum that hit the markets in recent years. At 65% ABV this is a real trooper. It's not aged at all and got some heat straight up, a bit too much to realize its nuances, though still fairly smooth at its burly 65%. This could easily be sipped in a bin...

Looks like an interesting product. As a lover of US craft spirits, I'd love to give this a try. The white rum in particular. I have reviewed an extensive list of white rums both domestic and foreign and would love to throw this one into the gauntlet. If you could get this product into B-21 Fine Wine...

I finally started working on this much belated review over the weekend. Let's just say my first thoughts were that this was a real rare bird. A stunner in terms of style. I've not had many a rums that really tossed me for a loop, but this one has for certain. It's flavor and aroma is like nothing I'...

I finally nearly worked through a bottle. It really grew on me a bit. It's still off the wall to me though quite unique. It's a 9 year that really could pass for nearly a 12 year Bajan rum, the cooperage no doubt played a role here. I believe the lack of chill filtration really helps. If I'm pitting...
