Not in full agreement with the anti blend arguments being made. First the term blend when applied to whisky has a very different legal meaning than the vernacular use and an important distinction needs to be made for continued discussion. Comparing blended whisky and blended rum is apples and orange...

Recently tasted all three of these and I would rate them Port Mourant first, Enmore second and Versailes a distant third. So you can pony up three times as much for a Velier (if you can find one) or scoop up one or two of these. The PM and Enmore are maybe a click less intense than the Velier counte...

Recently found this on sale for $20 a 1.75 - scooped up a case. Damn good juice particularly at the price. IMHO the best of all the "bourbon poured through a charcoal column" whiskies out there.

Can't speak to the possible added flavorings but it is my current favorite mixer. My cocktail making skills extend no further than pouring some Rum over lots of ice, adding some cheap ginger ale and a fat squeeze of fresh lime, sitting by the pool and watching the world whizz by. For that use this s...

Yup - Bielle, HSE and Three Rivers all bottle and sell cask strength. Seems like I have seen a Depaz Brut de Fut also but it was a bottle from years ago. Karukera bottles a couple of vintage dated at cask strength but since they didn't actually distill it I'm not 100% sure it is an AOC Agricole. Rum...

Got my hands on a bottle of Foursquare 2013 2yr old Pure Single Pot Still Rum last weekend. It's bottled as a collaboration between Richard Seale and Luca Gargano of Velier. Will be released in the EU very soon but not in the USA. You will have to work to get a bottle but IMHO it's woth the effort i...

Foursquare has a vintage 2006 single blended (coffey and pot) via Velier available now or very soon in the EU. 3yrs in Bourbon barrels and 7yrs in Cognac barrels. Barrel proof 62% - Subtle, complex and delicious. You might want to try a bottle if your taste runs to Highland Malts or a balanced Cogna...

Duncan Taylor also bottles single cask rums with distillation and bottling dates on the label. Doesn't say cask strength but the proof is high enough it could be. Here are three options from the Enmore still; http://www.masterofmalt.com/distilleries/enmore-rum-distillery/ Some others; http://www.mas...

I recently posted this on a Bourbon Forum when someone asked for a list of Rum styles; So often the "styles" of rum from different regions is a regional preference for what flavors are traditionally added to the juice. Either as additives late in the aging process or infused similar to the...

Going to have to pass on this but I wish you luck and look forward to your reviews. Saving my dosh for some probably tasty and pricy bottles that are available only in Europe. By the time the bottles are purchased and shipped the price is embarrassingly high. On the whiskey side it's been my experie...

You could have been talking about the "Master Distiller" for Michter's Bourbon. No still, no warehouse, no production. Buy it, label it, make up a story and sell it. Then trot out the "Master Distiller" to tastings and whiskey events. The Michter's guy has the decency to blush an...

Aged in what? Every barrel - even an un-charred one will impart some color in just a few weeks.

So tasting clear rum is tasting new make? Any extra flavors in it would be the result of infusions at the distillation stage?

Aren't a lot of the clear rums pretty much new make?

Capn's Log: Yes, though some may be aged from a few months to a year.
