I got a French press a few years ago - used it for a little while, and liked it quite a bit. Unfortunately, shortly afterward I found out that drinking coffee made without a paper filter can raise your cholesterol - and mine had already gone up quite a bit just before this, so I stopped using it. :c...

Re: Caldas or Sammy's

I already cast my vote for Ron Viejo de Caldas ($13 here), but Sammy's Beach Bar Rum (at $20 here) is a close second. I found 4 bottles of Mount Gay Eclipse Black for $11 each and snatched them up a while back. I also handed out 4 more bottles to family and friends. Wow that's an amazing price on t...

Uhh - I can't tell if he's sipping rum or giving a blowjob? Yes I saw the last play, I am from Pittsburgh. The only good thing I can say is that at least Wallace did next to nothing in that game. I can't believe the Dolphins wasted 12 million on him after he dropped so many passes for the Steelers l...

(Sorry, my Redskins have fallen deep into the darkest trench of hopeless incompetence and the erstwhile fans pelted them with ice-balls. Ugly, very ugly. And troubling) I think the Redskins are doing a very competent job of protecting their draft pick, much better than the Bucs and Jaguars. Not as ...

I'm glad to hear that you two enjoyed the cocktail - but I just wanted to clarify, I did not create it nor do I have anything to do with that site - it is run by "Evergreen Dan", a regular at Chowhound, which is where I came across it.

This is a very interesting cocktail - but you do really need Punt e Mes to get the full effect, any normal sweet vermouth would get lost against these palate wreckers. Punt E mes is almost a cross between a sweet vermouth and an amaro or bitters. http://www.kindredcocktails.com/cocktail/bernet-frank...

On a side note - Pitu has recently become available here in NC, at a ridiculous price of $23 for a 750, compared to the usual price elsewhere of around $15 for a liter. I bought a bottle once, I think I paid $11 for it a couple years back, would never buy it again. In the same $15 price range Ypioca...

I like his idea of "magnifying" the flavor of a spirit by adding it to something that is more or less neutral. This idea is used as a way of tasting bitters by adding a small amount to some vodka, and I have tried it a few times in the past with different spirits. Tonight I hit on one that...

Tequila is like cachaca in that some of the better sippers are not good for mixed drinks such as margaritas because the flavor can be too subtle to come through. I have found a great inexpensive but sippable blanco tequila that has become my go to mixer - Costco's Kirkland brand, which is ~$20 for a...

I think my first dark rum was from the "Captain", (shudder) If I had stopped there I would never have found the MGXO or older ED's, or Appletons 12. What a tragedy that would have been! Don't be embarrassed LOL, my first "premium" dark rum was Private Stock, at the time it seeme...

T1 and Fortaleza are two of the favorite brands of tequila nuts. I have tried the Fort blanco and repos but have not sprung for bottles of any of them. I am surprised you disliked the Camarena so much. I (and most people at tequila.net) find it a very decent bargain mixer at a price of around $15-20...
