Rum News for March 9, 2013

I'm putting this on one top, cause I think it's the most important: TTB issues final rule designating Cachaça as type of rum The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has issued a final rule designating “Cachaça” as a type of rum and a distinctive product of Brazil. Effective April 11, 2013...

Welcome. This is a good place to talk about rum. We are kind of against that whole USVI/Diageo agreement here. : )

Is it my imagination or is the overall dollar amount of Caricom rum actually growing? I know it's still bad and the USVI/Diageo production hasn't fully come online, but this chart actually give me a little hope that most of the producers can stick it out until these unfair trade agreements are chall...

Well if Appleton is what you prefer, I doubt that you would like the Barbancourt 5 star. There is a subtlety to the cane juice rums that is very different to the hit em in the head style of Appleton (I'm saying this as a fan, Appleton 12 is one of my top three favorites). If you don't want to collec...

Thanks for posting. I've been wanting to try absinthe for a while. Here are some questions: Is there any added sugar to the absinthe? Absinthe available locally: Lucid Abinthe, Mata Hari Absinthe Bohemia, and La Fee Absinth Verte. Are any of these decent, or should I hold off until I get out of state?

I'm going to disagree with you on this one. The rum festival will be a great way for all of these distillers to introduce their products to the public. Most of these big events are not money makers. They are more break even productions done out of love rather than profit. You have some contacts with...

Thanks for pointing out the WIRSPA article. It's ridiculous that Barbancourt is not considered Caribbean rum in Canada.
