The Zaya (old) has always been too "cloyingly" sweet for my preferences, but my wife enjoys it (a bit surprising since her sweet tooth is limited to only the darkest chocolates, and she likes her wines bone dry). When the old Zaya started disappearing (and we hadn't heard about the new yet...

When I said Agricole (with a capital A), it was my intention to be referring informally to the full designation "Rhum Agricole A.O.C. Martinique." So I think we are in very close agreement here. I studied French for 4 years and still cannot pronounce the most basic words correctly, so I li...

I have never tasted the Barbancourt 5 star. But I do have a bottle of the Barbancourt 15 Estate Reserve, which I enjoy very much. In fact it is by far my favorite (no pun intended) of all of the agricole style rums I have tried. Much more flavorful and interesting than the Clement, JM and 10 Cane pr...

I'm just a bit confused here. You have a review of the Cruzan Estate Diamond 5 year aged in the Cuban style rum section. And you have a review of the Cruzan Single Barrel here in the Jamaican style rum section. Now I agree wholeheartedly with your review and assessment of the ED5, and enjoy it very ...

I've been a long time participant on the MOR forums, and was there in the front row (with a large bucket of popcorn) for the AOC smackdown. I've gotta say, when I joined there it didn't take long to realize there was a bit more to the site than simple rum evangelism. There's a ton of useful informat...

Yes, pretty good eyesight. For example, I can tell from 200 yards away that my ball is not on the green! On a clear day, standing on the ridge south of town, you can see the tree line of Long Point and the power plant smoke stacks. Perhaps you didn't live here long enough to experience any clear day...

Reference Standards: A Case for...

I enjoyed very much reading your treatise on reference standards. A few years ago, when I decided to graduate from Captain Morgan and coke to real rum, I observed that there were many different styles of rum, and many different rum producing countries. I initially adopted the premise that each rum p...

Greetings from the Great White North

No, not Canada, although I can see it from here (on the snowy south shore of Lake Erie). A long time rum fan, my serious appreciation started about 4 years ago. My collection has grown to 50+ bottles, despite the extremely limited selections and high prices of the PA state store system. My frequent ...
