I don't see Zaya on those lists, anyone have any idea where it stands on added sugar?

Capn's Log: Simply by taste, I'd say plenty. This was one of the first rums to be placed in the Twiggie section.

I tried something like this before with tequila. Regulations allow up to 85 g/l of dry material to be added to tequila, so I tried adding a proportional amount of simpe syrup to a tequila that I don't find sweet at all - it worked out to 1/2 tsp simple syrup in a 3/4 oz pour. It turned out to make i...

The white 3 year is one of my favorite white rums, and the other two don't seem nearly as sweet as the 12 and 15 year but still have most of the robust flavors. Now that I know about the sugar content of the 12 and 15 I will more than likely be going to the 5 and 8 yr for my Demerara fix.

I just picked up three bottles of their lower offerings at the lowest prices I have ever seen. The 3 yr old for $11, 5 yr for $12 and 8 yr for $13. This was during an online 15% off sale.

It was always the Reserva exclusiva that was known as the sugar bomb wasn't it? With the 8 (year?) being less sweet but still sweetish.? Sorry d', I somehow other way read that, lol. I found the facking Reserva so sweet that I refused to waste even more money on the "Exclusiva" which appa...

Nah. While I think sugar should be declarated on the bottle I see no need to damn rum just because of it. Rum always was and is more rogueish and unregulated than Whisky or Cognac - so I would not judge a very tasty and good bottle of ED12 solely because of the sugar. :) Not exactly damning it - I ...

Re: My 2 cents...

[*]Weller 12 Year ($20-24) - This is a wheated bourbon and a good example of one at a great price. IMHO, this is much better than Maker's Mark. Some prefer Old Weller Antique (107º)for a couple of dollars more due to the higher proof. Another popular thing to do is a 50/50 blend of the two (let it ...

This is the Genevieve, right? Or is that St George?

Actually it says El Dorado 12 yr is 45 g/l, you were looking at the line for Bacardi 8 yr. . Damn. I guess I need a new favorite.

1) barbancourt 5 star 2) Depaz blue cane 3) Ron Viejo de caldas 8 yr Mae de Ouro would also be very close behind, as well as two I recently opened from Ypioca - the Prata and Ouro. ******* Capn's Log : what a great nomination. Frankly I'd forgotten completely about the Viejo de Caldas, the one cane ...

Unfortunately, only in 21 states - and NC is not one of them. Supposedly in GA, but I don't see it listed in Total Wine's inventory.

Elijah Craig 12 yr, nice one NC. Craig is one of my favorites, at any price. The fact that I can get a 1.75 ltr for around $40 on sale makes it all that much better. I was lucky enough to grab a couple bottles of their 18 yr last spring before it went away, since they have now decided to sell 20-21...

For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of WT101, as it doesn't have that trademark bland sweetness that many other bourbons have. WT 101 is also one I like - and you might want to try their higher end Bourbons, Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve. Rare Breed is also one of my favorites, but it is a little...

Hassouni, I am surprised to hear you call Bourbon insipid then in the next sentence talk about the spicy kick of rye. There are some very popular Bourbons that I find to be on the bland and boring side - among them Maker's Mark and jim Beam Black. But there are some high rye content or higher proof ...
