I suppose if it was called the "Small Producer looking for traction and distribution Fest" then my panties would be as wadded as yours. It doesn't seem much different than the Whiskey Fest that rolls into three large markets every year. It's primarily a party and a chance to try a lot of d...

Even in the Bourbon and Whisky industry the regulators rely almost completely on self regulation by producers. They don't look at a label and consider it's accuracy or its compliance by their own initiative. Which is to say they aren't investigative in nature. BUT if a competitor OR KNOWLEDGABLE CON...

I had an opportunity to share some Rum with him last week and he is indeed a really nice guy. I got straightforward answers to my questions too. His Family Reserve resembles the Clement single cask 8yr. even though he uses molasses and Clement uses cane. His remark about the importance of how it's a...

Damoiseau Agricole Production Info

There is some interesting stuff on this web site, in some respects it sounds like maintenance schedules and job descriptions for distillery workers and managers. Lots of insight into what goes into making a straight up product from cane. Most the good stuff is under the Rhum Damoiseau and Experts Co...

Recently had a chance to sample some generous pours of the Blue Label on three successive nights. I came away impressed. It's damn good Rum and at a fair price - SWEET! Loved the nose, it made me want to crawl into the glass. Then the flavors kept the promises the nose made and thats a rare thing. C...

Clement Single Cask

I found a few bottles of this on a table in a Wine shop in St Maarten. It is apparently available in Europe but not in the US. It's in a handsome 500ml bottle, which would account for the high bottle count listed below. The label, partially hand written, reads; Clement Single Cask, Tres Vieux Rhum A...

As I read the label it doesn't clearly say weather the finishing is in new or used cooperage. It could even be used barrels that have been re-charred. A not uncommon practice. However it's finished and to whatever extent it is flavor infused to my palate it's a delicious, light and dangerously drink...

St Maarten finds

A recent short visit to St. Maarten turned up some interesting bottles; Clement Single Cask, Tres Vieux Rhum Agricole, Non Filtre, 100% cane bleue, Cask #20070062, Distilled September 2002 and bottled June 27th 2011. 47.1%. Used Bourbon Barrel, 570 bottles total and I managed to get bottle #314, 315...

When 4 Roses was sold by Seagrams 4R retained the rights to 5 yeast strains. Each create specific flavors. In conjunction with two mash bills (high Rye and low Rye) the 5 yeasts produce ten different products. If your interested in what sort of impact yeast has do some comparison sipping of each of ...

Sounds yummy! You go first and let me know how it tastes. I bought a dusty bottle of Rum last year in a little town in S. Ga. that had this little missive on the label. "Refrigerate after opening" -- I gave it to a friend who is a pretty indiscriminate Rum drinker for Christmas and he stil...

Sorry - I feel you enthusiasm for these regs is misplaced. (e) Addition of neutral spirit: Rectified cane spirit may be added to rum, providing that the calculated average ages of the blends are not less than 6 months for regular rum, 2 years for aged rum, and 4 years for extra-aged rum. This is a d...

I understand all that but thanks for the detailed response. All the Gin descriptions you mentioned are adding botanicals after the Neutral Spirit is produced, so that makes the flavors infused. My point is that to make whiskey or rum or nay spirit you need a mash or beer to ferment and then you dist...

I wouldn't be surprised. Last spring I had the opportunity to crawl around inside a Heaven Hill warehouse and found two levels of Gosslings Rum aging in ricks. There are still some questions that need answering. When were the Prunes and Vanilla added? As a flavoring agent in the barrel while the Rum aged? After aging and blending? If the fruit and vanilla was added to the barrel while it aged or after then it's a cocktail in a bottle, not Rum, and should b...

Good work Mr. Cap'in Jim Sir!! That is some mighty fine searching right there! I love that they had to put that in the public record. Kind of lends credence to my long held belief that NEARLY ALL Rums are have been fornescued with in some way or another. If you sample enough single malts and bourbon...
