Second that!

A new bottle of Mount Gay Eclipse Black has been opened this evening in honor of the occasion.

I'm not sure if I've become a bit of an elitist, or if I just like to have lots of those tasty tannins in my rum :D but I find myself favoring the 1703 over the MGXO, the Appleton 21 (or MBL) over the 12, and the Barbancourt 15 over the 8. I am wondering if this is evidence of the inevitable dummyin...

Ah, but it doesn't matter who you are. It only matters who the Preacher thinks you are, as he reaches for the BAN button.

Welcome to the fray.

Actually, I was obliquely referring to someone's probable most recent delusion, that Sailor was likely another of your alter-egos, i.e., your self-demotion from cap'n to sailor.

Sorry to be so cryptic.

Disappointing that you might have taken such a demotion from Cap'n. ******* Capn's Log : We all know 1% as da'rum, and I'd take a demotion to this honest, intelligent and outspoken man any day. Sailor and Card Player are putting their considerable gonads on the line, what with the sudden demise of D...

You might add Ron Zacapa XO and Don Q Grand Anejo to the poll.

When I'm feeling manly there's not much better than 57% Smith & Cross neat :D But I read somewhere long ago that the alcohol content begins to numb the taste buds at about 35%, and that around 60 deg. F. is optimal for release of flavors. I figure that dropping one small ice cube into a tasting ...

there is just as much flavour in 75%,54% and 40% Pusser's but, the higher abv bottling's flavours are locked up in higher alcohol percentage therefore unavailable to our taste receptors. Once the water is added then the flavour can be picked up/recognised without the added problem of alcohol anaest...

Wow, PA and NY liquor prices suck!

I may have to travel to Texas to stock up my rum cabinet.

Oh, wait. Then I'd be in Texas. Nevermind :(

Since I'm an architect, not a chemist, I am trying to keep things conceptual. Maybe I'm totally wrong, and maybe I'm just not explaining my thoughts well, but if I add white to a paint, the color changes. I-m trying to figure out how it is not the same concept here. Yeah, that's where I got the 2.5%...

You must have a great deal of self control. I couldn't just leave a bottle of the good stuff sitting on the shelf unopened. I'd end up being a nervous wreck loosing sleep thinking of a time when I could get stuck in. Masochism must be wonderful if you can stand the pain, not me I'd be well into tho...

From a chemistry standpoint something doesn't make sense. A typical 750 ml bottle of 109 proof rum would contain 54.5% alcohol, about 43% water, and about 2.5% other stuff. Since the alcohol and water are essentially flavorless, all the flavors are in that other "stuff", regardless of whet...

I'm pretty sure there's a direct correlation between proof and atomic weight. I will check with my associates at MIT and get back to you. Seriously, my curiosity was piqued by how often here in the US people seem to think our Pussers is 4 year aged, absent any direct evidence pro or con. My theory i...

I don't keep records of prices paid for rums (hell to pay if my wife ever found such a record) but if memory serves I have paid around or slightly over $100 three times, for Mount Gay 1703, Appleton Master Blender's Legacy, and Ron Zacapa XO. None have been opened yet (waiting for appropriate occasi...
