You haven't specified where you are, so it's difficult to know what rums are available in your market. However, I'd recommend you buy a bunch of bottles which represent the major styles of rum - all the advice needed is on this forum in the categories listed. "Best" is very subjective, and...

I will absolutely check out those rum bar offerings, sounds like they're right up my alley.

Mixed feelings about the unaged. Even 3yrs usually does nice things to a white rum. But of course we shall try, and see!

OK, that clears THAT up. Thanks Wes.

Now I'd just like to know the ages of the white rums, and some intended release dates!

I wonder why they haven't put the age statements on the whites. If they'll put a 2yr age statement on the Foursquare it can't be because they're ashamed of the youth!!! Would like to know the distillation date on the Port Mourant white. Also, what do we know about Forsyth's as a distillery? Is this ...

In my experience Guevara, the problem is much simpler from a consumer perspective. The most democratizing test we have is Mr Drejer's sugar test, since it is so easy and cheap to do... ...however, I would put good money on the fact that the biggest offenders on the sugar list are whipping the backs ...

Hi Guevara, That's how they get us - they keep it tasting the same for a long time until we forget it had the 'yrs' statement, then they divert the good barrels, the "flavoring rum", into an ultra premium that we've got to pay through the nose to taste. They've got plenty of freedom to man...

Happy holidays indeed to all of you here.

It's been a crazy year, but 2016 has a good ring to it, and I look forward to increasing my contributions to the project, as well as making the effort to do some road trips and meet some of you in person!

All the best,
tbt

Thanks AK9, that's VERY helpful information on the MEA. You've definitely saved me some money on The Whisky Cask release! The biggest mystery for me has been the REV marque. I got one of them a while back and I really like it (it's heavily colored - I think this one is a matter of preference of cour...

Thanks Edgar! I'll keep my eye out for this and try your recipe. The start of this thread is pretty old by now. Is the Black Strap Cruzan still being made, and is it as good as it was in 2008 (no formula changes)? Or are we doomed to eternally dusty hunt it through the alleyways of forgotten America...

I just spent another two evenings with this. It's been nearly a year since my first read, and I've tried a lot of Demerarans since then. Some have delighted me, one disgusted me, many have confused me. Every one of them has been interesting (save the horror show - Bristol 1988 Enmore if you are curi...

I'm always amazed at how someone can be at the head of a major world rum company and yet understand so little about their own product as not to realize, as has been suggested above: A) they've got gold in their store room that people would pay for and treasure if they just left it alone and didn't f...

Hey Altair, The Diamond Bristol I remember as being "good, but not great". I need to revisit my bottle, but am working at sea for the next three weeks, so... I DO however adore that Port Morant 1999. A classic example of someone doing a barrel finish RIGHT, that really works with the spiri...
