Adding Water: A must for all rums...

I'm sick of the paucity and narrowness of so-called rum review sites... Don't get me wrong. There certainly are a few good rum reviewers, but let's face it most are not. We get flummoxed up scoring schemes, and a propensity for overrating rums. Look, when it comes to paying more attention to how th...

Re: Hello from bj2

Welcome! The Project was actually begun in 2006 when I'd had quite enough of the Minister of Rum. Since then we provided a home for some of the world's great rum afficianados. You'll find many thousands of long and informative posts about rum, but also a few other subjects. There is more material at...

Re: Doorly's 12yr

Thanks for your input... Oddly enough, I received my copy also for my birthday ( Search for a Whisky Both: Ralfy ). By the way I ran across a neat article that discusses the releasing of flavors by adding 5ml - 10ml - 15 ml. I used to follow Ian Wisniewski at Scotchwhisky.com - excellent resource -...

Re: Doorly's 12yr

You've raised an interesting issue: ie the adding of water... It's fair to say that very few tasters would routinely add water to a 40% (80 proof), as the truth is the spirits that need some water are those bottled at cask strength. However, it is also fair to say that water does - chemically - rel...

Re: I'll Start

RT thanks... I'm so glad to see you back... Although this is the new version - designed to work well on both laptop and cell phones - I'm soon to install a new style - very tropical - that is simply stunning. It'll be fun. Let's all remember that the Project has remained by fair the most informativ...

Re: Welcome back!

Hi RT... Turns out I found a guy who specializes in upgrading and customizing phbBB forums - knowledgable and responsive - and his prices are very affordable. He also publishes an e-book which I was able to use and ended up doing my own conversion, hard to believe really. This is the new forum, whi...

Re: New Look coming...

Hey, hey! This is step one of the new look. This is the latest version of phpBB open source forums (version 3.3.3), in what is a "standard style". Trust me, the final version - still coming - is much different, tropical and well, rum-like. The main point of upgrading is: 1. A new and visua...

Thanks Nomad. It has been quite a trip. What's your view on the changes in both pure and altered rums?

New Look coming...

Hi all... Some of you may recall the Project first appeared back in 2006 - directly as a result of my dear friends Hamilton and the Frozen One, lol. I did everything including learning how to put up a super simple but reliable forum (phpBB). What you are looking at now is version 2.0.21, the forum e...

Thanks.... I - like all of us - am glad to be alive in these amazing times. Welcome back! FWIW, I found a great independent phpbb forum programmer that's going to update the Project, and to make sure it works on cellphones.

Welcome back!

Hello to all! It is with great affection that my sabbatical of sorts has come to an end. Here's what happened... 1. The Rum Project was never really closed. What did happen is that I determined to find and buy a bluewater cruising sailboat with/in which I planned to sail the Caribbean (with possibl...

Gunner, please note the addition above in the OP. The year "1703" appears on most of the newer MG rums. The 1703 "Master Select" is their top of the line, and much more expensive than the XO.

Are you sure you were tasting the Master Select?

Thank you for your kind words. The Project was and remains a labor of love. We were honored that over time we were able to attract a group of very knowledgable people who were and are VERY serious about this spirit. To keep this forum pure and effective I rejected most registrants and only accepted ...
