Luca's rums all sell out. He doesn't need a classification system biased just to move more Velier - he can't keep it in stock as it already stands. I think it's unfair to suggest that he is doing this even significantly for the benefit of his own company. He has done a great deal to advance the con...

Discussion of what might be ideal always can be argued to be pointless in the face of established systems that could use a change. No offense, but what are you adding to a discussion by saying something is meaningless? If we just try to slap down everyone with an idealistic vision by telling them t...

I seem to remember there was Rum Flavour or Tasting Wheel/Map that was introduced by some French Agricole producer. It too wanted to class certain rums as "Industrial". I don't want to be disrespectful but which producer in their right mind is going to label their rum "industrial"...

Re: Panama rum?

I see some options on my state liquor store website for some rum from Panama. I never had anything (that I know of) from that country and was wondering what style of rum that is most associated with them. I know that any country can make any style but which style are they most associated with? Span...

That poster is unknown to me, and has made a rather extreme claim with not a whit of backup; therefore, it has to be ignored for now. My view: a simple, marketing driven label change which may imply a price increase ("premiumization"). The poster is talking rubbish. The rum is in no way a...

It depends who bottles them. Of the Independent Bottlers Rum Nation and Compagnie des Indes are the only ones who have admitted to adding sugar. Velier, Samaroli, Cadenhead's, Bristol and Mezan don't at least not from what I have been able to test anyway. One thing to note though is that a lot of De...

While I don't have any info and could not locate anything stating this rum does add coloring, I can assure that this is an authentic product. To be fair to Pirate, I could not locate info stating there is no added coloring. Foursquare does not put their name on products that are not assured to be c...

Caramel is added to the Real McCoy or the Barry's? If it's the Real McCoy then this statement on their website "The rum is completely unadulterated" is a bunch of shiiite then. The Real McCoy has caramel added solely to colour the spirit it adds no flavour and it is well within any regula...

The 12 I have is also from Foursquare (I've almost had it confirmed anyway) however its aged for most of its 12 years here in England rather than in the tropics. However, that is not the only reason for the difference in colour between the rum and Real McCoy 12 - for the American market caramel is ...

The main difference we have is rather obvious, that being the price. Both of these rums are produced at four square distillery (at least the 11 year available in the USA). The color is striking in difference also, the McCoy is several shades darker possibly from the extra year of tropical aging. Wh...

The only two I could say to try are the St Lucia 11 year and the Guadalupe 12 year. There are better Barbados bottles available such as the Real McCoy 12 year which really is a much better bottle at half the cost. But if I really had to recommend a rum on that website it would be a rum I tried once...

I actually got it from Excellence Rhum as they seemed a bit more clear about paying the Duty before shipping it over.
