Some months ago Roger and Dave, aka RnD Rum Reviews had published a few classic rum recipes including the 'Ti Punch, Caiparinha and one of our favorites, Pusser's Painkiller. Only one problem...
They omitted mention of "Pusser's", and didn't user Pusser's Rum.
This a big "non-non!" as "Pusser's Painkiller" is copyrighted and is protected. Now Sue Sea and I are huge Pussers fans, and know the owner's son well enough to spend an afternoon with him at the Carib Club in Key Largo. Natch, we could not let RnD's error pass, and soon they received the following email from a certain mutually known source...
It was reported to us that RnD, to their great credit, promptly changed their listing and properly gave Pusser's the full credit they deserved..."The "Painkiller" is a registered trademark owned by Pusser's Rums, and legally must specify Pusser's rum in the recipe. If you want to use the name, you have to use Pussers. You boys strike me as straight shooters, so please either change the name or change the rum.
Thanks for your cooperation."
Good on you, boys! You did the right thing.RnD:
"Painkiller
2-4 oz Pusser’s Rum (your preference)
4 oz Pineapple juice
1 oz Cream of Coconut
1 oz Orange Juice
Serve on the rocks, stir, then grate nutmeg on top. For an added kick, finish the presentation by serving with a straw filled with more Pusser’s rum."
