Monkeys Gone Wild Dept: Simians trash Bundaberg...

Post by Capn Jimbo »

And there they go again...

I'd just about gotten to the point where the Shillery had become completely trite and boring for me, but I do love animals and as your loyal servant it is my duty to actually visit now and again, hopefully between cage cleanings. And what did I find this time?

Alpha Monkeys Wannabees Trash Bundaberg...

It all started when the Bundie rep started a wonderful series of hard-to-find Bundaberg releases and featuring their lovely bottle designs and rums revered by their Australian customers. New releases are antiicpated, and are showcased at much anticipated launch parties at the Bundaberg distillery. Most of the releases are limited and numbered, and sell fast to their thirsty and repectful Aussie fans.

Check this out (link).

This "Master Distiller's Collection" limited release sure appears lovely and inviting, yes?

Not to the Monkeys

Here's how it works at the Shillery. The Preacher is sometimes the first word, but always the last. The few monkeys who actually post spend half their time in sycophantic support, and the other half in battling among themselves to join the inner core of alpha monkeys. This release is an excellent example, as follows....

1. A poster who I assume represents Bundaberg publishes an introductory blurb about this new release. Keep in mind there is no age statement, but Bundie makes it clear this one is very limited, drawn from selected reserves and aged in heavily charred oak for a very limited, numbered release.

2. A light weight simian posted what I'm sure he or she intended sarcastically...
Simian #1: Young... in heavily charred oak... caramel added all for the bargain price of $110... fantastic."
3. Alpha wannabee #2 - the infamous Jolly PooPoo - not to be left out, joins in...
Jolly PooPoo, piling on: "I (enjoy) understatement".
Never you mind that the rum (a) has not yet been released (until October 12th), (b) made no age statement (but surely implied good age) and (c) specifically noted a "well-balanced finish (not addition) of deep caramel and sweet raisins".

Bottom Line...

This is exactly the kind of ill informed, shithead commentary that I find offputting on any website, and especially those seemingly dedicated to lovers of rum. To denigrate a rum pre-release represents the height of self-aggrandizing, bowel clearing monkey droppings. What a mound!

Will the Preacher allow such putdowns of an unreleased product? I wouldn't...

Capn', I think the restraint you show in your post is most admirable. We here, after all, are grownups, and I, for one, see no reason you should feel constrained expressing your opinions.
