Non Collector Dept: Bacardi Superior Heritage Ltd Edition

Another collectible for the Peanut Gallery...

1909 Bacardi Superior Heritage Limited Edition Blanca Original Premium White Rum...

Say THAT ten times fast! Whew. What is it really? According to Bacardi this is a special edition dedicated to their forefather Facundo who actually did account for the Cuban style of rum. Accordingly it is produced in a traditional bottle and original style label. Unforutnately and unlike the original, it is not hand signed by Facundo. So much for the marketing backstory for yet another "special" holiday "edition". Let's deconstruct this one...

First, I daresay its main claim to faux fame is its alcohol content at roughly 89 proof. This is certainly a great achievement by the bottling department. This "limited edition" opened at around $36, but Wine Searcher found an average price closer to $30, I found it everywhere for $19 at our amazing South Florida outlets, and there was at least one retailer dumping it for $13.

Apparently the collectors are unemployed or too busy having a circle jerk over at the Plantation. As for The Rum Project I was very sorely tempted to buy it, just to finally experience a rum at a good tasting proof. But as I was reaching for the bottle, I reflected on the fact that these tend to be limited editions (if you consider 7500 cases limited) not normally available. This of course violates our goal of attempting to find and review world class rums - widely available and at everyday affordable prices, under $30 if possible and better yet under $20.

This said, I put the bottle back; however, if any of you actually purchased this one your reviews will be welcomed as I am well known for making an occasionally horrible mistake...
