Tax on Spirits

Post by Dai »

The chancellor has just seen fit to raise tax on spirits on again by a whopping 38p a bottle to £7.41 for a 70cl bottle of your favourite tipple. Add to that the VAT (value added tax) of £5.42 and this adds up to £12.83 in tax on a bottle of El Doraro 12 I bought this afternoon. Rum could be a lot cheaper if the government were not so greedy and just charged VAT instead of two separate taxes on beer, wine and spirits.

Just my little rant on taxation in the UK it sucks. If you drink smoke or drive a car you're f**ked if you live in Britain.

Australian tax makes buying any decent rum an exercise in limb amputation.

As a part of the common wealth I can believe it. Probably not to good in Canada either.
