Interesting link: I wasn't aware of the term "optic spirit measures". Now I am, thanks. As far as cheap and broken cork, fortunately we drink enough wine to have plenty of leftover corks which we save for this reason, and for fun as well. To be honest we feel slightly queasy using rubber or molded plastic around alcohol, as we fear that the alcohol might leach bad compounds out of them.
