Is there something missing from this year's...

Ultimate Spirits Challenge?

Particularly in the rum category?

Go ahead, take your time.....still haven't sussed it out?

Ok, here's a hint, there is a noticeable lack of product from a highly respected Bajan distillery.

Also, notice the spread of scores in most of the rum categories while scores in whiskey/whisky are noticeably "tighter"?

Just an observation

I always let my pocket and taste buds dictate what is good not, competitions or reviews. My taste buds are far more reliable than any judge will ever be.
Those are my opinions on the subject.

It goes without saying that all such "competions" need to be defined to be understood...

Accordingly, the "Ultimate Challenge" - which is a HUGE money maker - was properly questioned by email....
Moi:

"A question about your scoring. You state that your various panels judge a spirit on a "100 point scale". Typically this means an absolute low score of 50 through a high score of 100. Typical scoring would in rough terms be:

50-59: poor
60-69: below average
70-79: average
80-89: good
90-100: excellent

Obviously you have broken down the 80-89 into two sub-categories, as you have for 90-100.

My question: do any spirits receive less than 80 points? And if so, why are they not reported? Also, if all your scores are taken into consideration, do they fall into a normal distribution, ie bell curve..

Many thanks... personally I've always been a huge fan of F. Paul, and frequently cite his scores.
