A big thanks to Dai for finding and sharing this...

One paragraph that interested me was:

"The announcement comes two years after a simmering row caused Caribbean nations to threatened to register a full complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the US over rum subsidies provided to some of the sectors biggest operators."

Of course this was at the time we banded together to promote the Petition to Save Caribbean Rum. As I recall, the countries filed official "letters" with the WTO, to which the WTO is obligated to comment, but this is sort of a preliminary move. Failing a positive response, an "official" complaint is the next (and final) step - but to my knowledge never happened. The DR was furious and the most likely to take that step.

This of course raises the question "So WTF happened?". I will find out. Thanks again for a good contribution re the continuing subsidies (at least $4B or more).
