Just ran across an ad from Screetch Spiced, apparently (per the website) for the US market only. As promotied...
In an unexpected appearance, none other than the Born Again Mr. Purity, the Preacher just had to pee on the parade..."Screech Rum’s newest flavoured extension – Exclusive for the US market only!
Screech Spiced Rum is a blend of 4 to 8 years aged Demerara (Guyana) Rums. Infused with a select blend of natural spices, the product has a sweet taste of caramelized sugars, spices, oak and vanilla. A smooth high quality rum with no sugar added."
He oughta know all about marketing, nicht vahr? But frankly, I don't know what he's spewing about. How about The Lash or Brinley's Shipwreck Spiced, both based on a minimum 4 year rum, not to mention Columbia's Ron Santero Coffee Rum based on a minimum 7 year rum? All meet or exceed the 4 year minimum claim. What can we gather from these?"If it is actually a blend of 4-8 year old Demerara rum, it would be the oldest blend of any spiced rum that is commercially available today. Sounds like a lot of marketing to me."
1. The "Sugar and Additives War" we all have been fighting for some years now has finally found traction. When a major brand extols "no sugar", that issue has arrived. Will other brands follow suit?
2. When the "...it's all good" Preacher whose only qualification for anything labelled "Rum" seemed to be that it fit in his glass, for this windvaning dear gentleman to now come forth as a champion for honesty in marketing is more than curious. This too - plus his outing by name of several other "violators" - also confirms the arrival of truth in labelling. I sincerely hope all of you are aware that your words and posts spread far and wide.
A good day...
