Happy, Incredulous, Angry, Frustrated and Glad

Post by da'rum »

These emotions are the ones I cycle through as I read the comments around the hyperglobalmeganet of late.

It seems that the ball is well and truly now in play with respect to additives and bullshit marketing which makes me happy, I'm glad that finally it's more than just the obsessive compulsive Jimbo and clan yelling into the wilderness but I am amazed at how the sycophantic 'go which ever way the wind blows' bloggers are now piping up because some heavy weights are adding their voices to the argument. Richard Seale has been notably outspoken and of late more so. Now the hangers on, the either 'it's all good' or 'I care but don't want to rock the boat' crowd are coming out and speaking like it was their long held opinion as well.

This of course is just a by product of a good thing because now these arseholes are picking up the gauntlet it may facilitate change so the fact that they are now speaking out can only be to the spirit worlds advantage, but hypocritically acting like battle weary crusaders of purity and honesty makes me gag.

The few that I have recently noticed have either been actively denying the problem or cowardly ducking the issue for a long time.

I am however stuck on the fence of what I'd like to see, on one hand I'd like to see them shamed for the hypocrites they are but on the other hand I'd like to see them get a free pass so that the word of dishonest practices in the spirit industry spreads far and wide.

Cheers

What I remember is the absolute ease and condescension of the Preacher who refused my resignation, and who so easily dumped JaRiMi, Dai, the instant da'rum and perhaps a few others. This doesn't count those who'd had quite enough and left to start their own websites (think Rumdood, et al).

If anyone knew what was really going on it was the Preacher - nonetheless he not only denied alteration, challenged JaRiMi for example to "prove it", wrote nasty private emails, and unceremoniously dumped those who even questioned the practice.

And now he is one of those to whom da'rum refers as acting as if this had always been common knowledge, so what? But I'll say it again - unlike whisky, the world of rogue rum is a VERY small one, and what we say here gets around. To date:

1. The Zee rums outed, as well as the Eee and Pee rums. Oh, and RM as well. Here.

2. The notion of "styles" and unlabelled additives started here.

3. The issue of the massive subsidies, and the Petition to Save Caribbean Rum? Here.

4. Promotion of the sugaring - long discussed here, confirmed by JaRiM and others, proven by ALKO and the Swedes, borrowed by the Count, and strongly promoted here.

5. With special credit to da'rum and Dai, the notion of boycotts of Diageo, and in my case the annual "Death of Rum Fest" in Miami. All emanated here.

I'm not taking credit - but I AM thanking all those who joined in and added their voices. With over half-a-million monthly hits, this nutty and idiotic website is read and directly or indirectly our words are heard and repeated.

I'd like to know though d... do you care to name some names?

I'd rather not as I'm undecided if just letting them be is maybe better for the bigger picture. I'm sure their credibility does not hang by what I might say, in fact it will more than likely not be noticed, however better safe than sorry.

It's good to have a lot of this stuff out in the open. As consumers which most of us are, it's good to have the knowledge to make an informed judgment on what we spend our money on. None of us like being taken for fools or like being ripped off and, the rum industry marketing machine is quite happy pulling the wool over our eyes and making us think one thing when we may be getting something else.

It's just a pity we don't have easier access to more information so that we may make an even more informed judgment. That's life in the rum world and the pooling of info/knowledge in this forum is a good one and one I'd like to see it keep going.
Life is under no obligation to give us what we expect!
