Sevenfathomsrum

Never tasted it, BTI gave it 88.

Nevertheless I smell the manure in the air so following in Jimbo's footsteps, I sent an email.

"Hi,
I was reading about your rum on your website and have a couple of questions regarding its ageing and post production handling.

Firstly is your rum aged in vats or barrels?
If in oak barrels, are they new or used barrels?
How long is your rum aged for?
Is the aged portion of your rum mixed with a younger portion? Or is it bottled at one age?
Does your rum have any additives? ie colouring or flavourings, e150a etc?

I plan on trying and reviewing your rum in the near future and these questions are essential to an accurate representation of the product.

I look forward to your reply.

Kind Regards"

So I wonder if I'll get a reply.

A nice prompt reply;

"Sure thing -

Our signature "Seven Fathoms Rum" is aged in barrels. We use a selection of different barrels, however our primary aging vessels are former Makers Marks barrels. It is a blend of different ages of rum, ranging from 1 y/o to 3 y/o, so there is no specific age, but rather a blend of ages that gives us the flavor profile we are looking for. We use no additives or colorants at all. It is entirely distillate, oak and water.

I hope that helps! Let me know if I can assist further.

Best,

So two hats off to Walker for his transparency and the fact his rum is additive free.

Now all I have to do is go buy a bottle of this 1-3 year old column still blend that has been deep sea diving. I think it's probably going to be a bit young with that sort of still to be amazing BUT, what do I know? It may be great. I won't know until I've tried it.

Unfortunately after all this it is priced out of range for a taste test. 56€ + shipping from the UK would put it at about 65€ or more. So I will have to wait until I trip over a bottle to try it.

56€ for extremely young rum is a bit rude and I now see why they push the underwater ageing gimmick as they need an angle to justify that price tag.

Can you tell I'm a bit annoyed?
