Reader: Availability in Washington DC

Post by jankdc »

Go to Ace Beverage on New Mexico Ave. They had all of the reference rums for each style with the exception of Doorly's. The guy that helped me said that Doorly's and Seale's aren't available in the U.S. right now, but hopefully next year they will be back.

Out of the top rums that I saw (besides MGXO and other reference rums) they had:

Mount Gay 1703
Scarlet Ibis (I purchased a bottle)
Dos Maderas 5+3 and 5+5
Smith and Cross
Westerhall
Flor de Cana 18 (and the whole Flor De Cana line)
Pusser's Red label (and blue of course)

They also had the whole line of Barbancourt, Flor De Cana, El Dorado, Mount Gay, Appleton, and more.

There were many rums I wasn't familiar with. I was just in awe. To add insult to injury, the guy that helped me said that he was out of a lot of stuff. He was a little pricey on some things, but on others, I thought it was reasonable. Plus you pay a little more for selection.

Also, if you are in the DC area, you may want to check out what is on sale in Maryland. I picked up Appleton 12 year on sale for $24. I only bought the Scarlet Ibis and Westerhall Plantation rum, but I did buy three other bottles of rum yesterday in Maryland.

In Maryland...

There exist two Total Wine & Spirits megastores in Maryland...

A - Laurel (Corridor)
3321 Corridor Marketplace
Laurel Corridor
Laurel, MD 20724
(301) 617-8507

B - Towson (Beltway)
8727 Loch Raven Blvd
Towson, MD 21286
(410) 668-8884

The carry the entire line of rums made by Seale's Foursquare Distillery, plus just about everything else. The only stores that beat Total are the Indian run mini-chains in South Florida...

Thanks, they are in a different county. I'll have to get there next time. We are leaving on Wednesday and I don't want to drive a little more than an hour before we head back to Cleveland. If I knew about them, I would have picked up the Seale's, Doorly's, and Alleyne Arthur's for a lot less than what I got the Scarlet Ibis and Westerhall Plantation for at Ace's. I will say though that Ace had a better selection than what they are advertising online.
