In Other Rum News, Again

Papa' Pilar released by Miami based Hemingway Rum Co.

Seven Fathoms comes up trumps in blind tasting: Small distillery beats out Mount Gay, Appleton etc.

Jamaican exporters face threats, opportunities in Canadian market. Caricom having trouble negotiating trade deal with Canada.

Jersey Artisan Distilling will have it's first rum for sale in April. This is a first for New Jersey since prohibition. In the second paragraph I was disappointed to find out that Goose Island Brewery is owned by Busch (I love Matilda). Re: Jersey Artisan, here is another article.

Dancing Pines Distillery’s Cask Rum featured in this article.

Why a Rum and Diet Coke Makes You Drunker Faster

Several small Caribbean producers/bottlers highlighted in this article.

That's it for now.

Good stuff by our staff researcher...

Jan, thanks as always. A few comments...

1. The Jamaican Canadian article make clear that Canada really remains rather unfriendly to the Caribbean at large. This was covered a couple years ago in great detail here at The Project in the article "WIRSPA Unplugged":

http://www.rumproject.com/WIRSPA.html

At that time WIRSPA colluded with Canada to screw the non-Commonwealth producers. A real circle jerk by some self-dealing jerks.

2. Your last link (at the bottom of the OP) highlighted a few "small Caribbean producers/bottlers. To all: these kind of articles are perfect places to comment and briefly state the problem, and link the solution, the Petition to Save Caribbean Rum.

Turns out it was possible to register and publish an actual article there, and Save Caribbean Rum did just that, and reproduced the press release.
Please go to the article and add some pithy comments as only the intelligent members of The Project are capable:

Important: It is very useful if you click on the Facebook/Twitter links as this spreads all through the e-verse.
Peace out, and remember just two things:

1. Diageo is the problem - we are the solution!

2. It's a marathon, not a sprint...

Walk on...

Thanks for pointing out the WIRSPA article. It's ridiculous that Barbancourt is not considered Caribbean rum in Canada.
