Smoky the Bear Dept: Looking for a real sucker...
Yes of course - this post is about seeegars. It goes without saying that a few certain rums about demand a good cigar. These would include our favorites, most of which feature a Cameroon wrapper:
1. Arturo Fuente Hemmingway "Short Story"
2. Sancho Panza: Quijotes, Dulcinea and when found, Caballeros
3. Arturo Fuente Spanish Lonsdale, Rothechild
We like a medium cigar and adore Fuente's Camaroon wrappers which deliver a smooth leafy taste. The rums that inspire include of course Mount Gay XO, Pussers and Ron Matusalem 15.
Bottom line:
I can certainly envision a "Cigar" section - and would love to find a cigar afficianado who might enjoy moderating the section. Interested? Lemme know...

I have given up smoking of all varieties Cigarettes, Cigars, Crack Cocaine etc....
but when I did smoke cigars my favourites by far were the 'My Fathers' Don Pepin Le Bijou petit Robusto, Maduro wrapped. They produced a rich chocolatey thick smoke that wasn't too heavy on the nicotine hit and could be enjoyed for a good 3/4 of an hour or so with a peaty Scotch or a heavy Rum.
Another smaller Cigar that I thoroughly enjoyed was the CAO Brazillia Piranha. A small diameter cigar again Maduro wrapped but with a superb subtlety and thick rich smoke. This one went well with a nice fresh quadruple Espresso or Scotch and rum.
We are lucky in a way here in Europe to have access to all Cuban varieties, I forked out some decent money for a couple of very expensive Cubans and I can say that with out a doubt they are extraordinarily over rated. Cigars out of DR and Nicaragua are easily equal or superior to the Cubans. Don't get me wrong the Cubans are very enjoyable but so over priced it's just a scam. I mentioned this opinion to a German friend of mine who loves Cubans and he strongly disagreed. He then produced from his Humidor a very expensive aged Cuban that I would not buy in a lifetime but he insisted that I smoke it. So we sat on a balcony in Berlin with an amazing view, a very nice Scotch and two stupidly expensive Cubans. 10/10 for the setting and and average 7-8/10 for the cigar. Maybe my senses aren't up to picking the price expanding nuances raved about in a Cuban, maybe it was because the Cuban was Colorado wrapped. I don't know, but not worth the $$$€€€ by a long way.
So if I were to smoke cigars again I wouldn't be forking out huge money for Cubans I would probably settle in for a nice DR or Nicaraguan.
