We love the U-man!
And love that bottle! Actually, you are soooooo right. We definitely need a break and this is a great one. The U-man is always welcome, and we love his posts and pics. And that bottle! An amazing resemblance to my ex-wife, whose "tsanta" trophy head occupies a honored location hanging over my workbench!
And let's just say that both Sue and I in our distant youth were not strangers to exotic herbs and the "heads". Sue Sea even left home and traveled to California to join the kids in northern Cali and lived there.
About my ex, er Deadhead...
It goes without saying that the rum appears to be an extreme example of a marketing induced circle jerk, but I decided - as always - to doodoo my usual due diligence and at least on screen, it was pretty interesting:
Distilled from cane juice and high grade molasses. Double-distilled in pot stills. Aged six years in European Oak (cognac, whiskey, sherry, bordeaux, port and rojas barrels). Possible "solera" aging. Final charcoal filtering.
Dig it. This got my full attention as I asked - could a way overmarketed rum actually be a good one? In almost every other case I'd run, not walk away from one of these. But the rest don't share or promote details like these, and if true this is a rum that may be the exception. One other note: this rum is apparently made in Vera Cruz, Mexico. Although tequilas are interesting, most are WAY overpriced, but we will say this: Mexico, like Scotland, is proud of their spirit and works to make a relatively pure product. If their rum is another example, well...
It might be worth a try. Thanks for the break...

Special Note: the Deadhead was reviewed by the well known Robert Plotkin who we met in Tampa. Although he is a semi-shill, he has a wonderful palate and his reviews are worth reading, here:
