A friend of mine died today

He was the founder of the Grenada Chocolate Company. A farmer run collective producing their own organic chocolate. His vision was to pay farmers a premium for their cocoa and help a small part of the Grenadian Economy. He was a rebel, idealist and environmentalist who worked with the Tres Hombres crew to ship tons of chocolate to Europe. Tres Hombres also ships rum.

Mott Green, a Free-Spirited Chocolatier, Dies at 47

Mott Green, who emerged from a hermitlike existence in a bamboo hut in the jungle of Grenada to produce a coveted Caribbean delicacy — rich, dark chocolate bars that he exported around the world with the help of sailboats, bicycles and solar-powered refrigeration — died on June 1 in Grenada. He was 47.
