Read the reviews as well. These pear wood pipes have a good following and some great shapes at ridiculously cheap prices compared to briar pipes.
Also checkout the video review of the pipes.

Pear wood is fine, be aware it does have slightly different properties than briar and will probably not last as long as a briar of similar price. That being said an acceptable choice. I would choose a corn cob though as a starter pipe if I could have my time again. I did luck out and pick a great smoking briar pipe (Passatore) for my first one but that was dumb luck.

I have been doing my research.
Tobacco's:
Peterson-Connoisseur-s-Choice
Century Buttered Rum
Now all I need is the money to put all that together.
You have been doing your research
Both those pipes are great choices.
The tobacco is a taste thing but Peterson are top quality, I don't know about the buttered rum.
Seriously though try for a sample of aromatics normally heavy on the cavendish and flavours (as you undoubtedly already know) and a non aro like a Vaper of some sort or Vabu. HH old dark fired springs to mind although I think that has a light topping. Anyway try both sorts and see what you like. My first was Mac Baren seven seas Royal. It's an aro and I don't smoke it anymore but it was nice enough to get me intrigued.
Cheers
