Lucee, I'm hoooome! Dept: Bacardi's, uh, Havana Club

Post by Capn Jimbo »

Back to the future, er past, again...

Bacardi's attempted steal of Havana Club from Cuba was (a) typical and (b) unsuccessful. It's not enough that Bacardi is a huge and successful company, easily able to buy off, I mean, influence its US regulators and key congressional representatives, they seem cursed with a seething hatred for Fidel.

Ergo their "Havana Club" product.

Now I'm really not gonna go there again, but you can with a quick search here. What amazes me is that subject has come up yet again at the Shillery, insofar as:

1. The monkeys have just rediscovered and are confused by Bacaradi's (Puerto Rican) "Havana Club" and the real Cuban Havana Club. There's really no comparison.

By the way, it was this confusion that led to multiple lawsuits between the two, with Pernod (Cuba) winning every one in the world's courts, except for a lone US decision based on a retroactive, paid for, I mean influenced and slipped in clause aimed specifically at denying Cuba's trademark in the US.

2. The Preacher - who seemingly watches every character being typed into his commercial site - so far has ignored this thread, for what reason I know naught. Now that this is posted, I'm sure that will change...

My guess: you can't sell the Cuban Havana Club here, and it would be an idiot's errand to piss off Bacardi. So the monkeys are allowed to mill about in whimpering confusion and exhibiting the usual, banana driven and whiny speculation (speaking for the three or four of them still posting). It's feeding time!

So in a spirit of kindness to animals, allow me. These are two different products. One is authentic, the other simply purports to be. One is desired by all true rum afficianados, the other isn't and can hardly be found. You decide, and...

Havabanana!
