Brilliant Review: Ralfy and Edradour

Ralfy is my hero!


Ralfy is a gem and will remain so in my book, and in those of most anyone who has discovered this man among men. Absolutely, positively independent, Ralfy is completely free of distiller influence and receives no freebies or whisky-related pay of any kind or form, period.

Accordingly his reviews are dependable, accurate and most important of all, educational. He loves, no reveres good whisky and thinks any idiot can too. Which is where I come in. He makes it clear that we all have the ability to recognize and appreciate good spirits and he teaches us how.

Brilliant.


Yet even Ralfy has his days...

As mentioned Ralfy's interviews are entertaining and educational, and generally quite worthwhile. But every once in awhile he achieves direct-to-the-whisky-godz brilliance. His Edradour review (link) is one of them. Apart from giving this young (7 year) whisky an amazing review, he also spends time sharing yet another trustworthy whisky site, and speaks directly to the factors that really make a good whisky good or great, and how that knowledge is available - with not much experience - to us all.

In addition to harmony, complexity, integration and roundness he speaks to yet another factor: rhythm. "Rhythm" is a key factor that can be recognized to us all, but frankly one with which we are mostly unfamiliar.

As for now stop whatever you are doing - counting money, making love to your wife, mistress or girlfriend (or even all together), eating apple pie, typing with one hand - all of it! Stop this very instant and click on this interview just as fast as you can take your hands out of your pants, from the rat to your mouse...
