Anyone tried XM VXO Rum

The missus is going to buy me three bottles of rum for our Anniversary and I thought I'd try XM VXO 7 year old as I've read some good things about it. I don't like to buy a rum blind (without tasting it first) so, just wondering if any of you guy's have tried it.

Guyana good, but "formula"?

I know less than nothing about this Guyanese rum. Historically these rums have been exceptional but JaRiMi has noted that he has noted some changes in the form of possible additions. It is also worthy to note that bulk sales are signficant from this region.

The one thing that tends to raise my red flag is this statement for the 5 year, "Made according to the traditional prize winning formula, originated by Jose Gomes D'Aguiar since 1850".

It's £25 a bottle Jimbo If it's good stuff then it may become one of my goto rums.
At the moment looking for a reasonably priced sipper which spares the cash for the more expensive ones (Ithink we can all relate to this). It's findin a rum you like at a price you like. Take Ron Mulata Aldi my local German supermarket has run out of the special they were doing on it and no one in the UK imports it so a good mixer has just bitten the dust only got a one bottle and a bit of one left. Damn shame they don't have it in as a regular product.

It is worth noting the Banks DIH company has not purchased any demerara rum in 20 years from DDL. This rum may be aged in Guyana but it no longer is distilled in Guyana and has not been for a long time. It is possible they may have some leftover Demerara stock sitting in tanks or barrels so I would not entirely discount the idea of their rum containing at least some Demerara rum. You may have noticed that in the labels of most of their bottles it no longer says Demerara but a "blend of Caribbean rums."

Now when it comes down to how these rums taste I've not tasted the VXO though I've tasted the XM 10 which I thought was alright but a bit on the sweeter and plain side. Not too much Demerara influence there either in my opinion.

Well I've done half a bottle so far and I can tell you it's quite a nice rum. It certainly has that el dorado chared taste to it. Definately has a bit of that going on. If you had not told me it did not contain any Demerara rum I would not have guessed it.

Like I said I'm not a 100% sure if they contain any Demerara anymore or not. What does the label of the bottle say? Finest Caribbean Rum or Demerara Rum?

Then most likely it contains no rum distilled at the DDL. They were forced to change the labels as they have not purchased any rum from DDL anymore.
