Hibernation Dept: Sleepy awakes Bearmark, and an apology!

Post by Capn Jimbo »

I wonder if you know...

(Special note: Insert "Bearmark" for "Sleepy" here and you'll get it right, except for the coffee part. Left up only to highlight my own completely egregious error. Be SURE to read Sleepy's hand slap and my desperate and shameful reply and apology to Mark Hebert, aka Bearmark)

*******

That our good friend that goes by "Sleepy" (Bearmark), aka Mark Hébert has his own blog called "Bear Marks" wherein he reviews mostly fine whiskies but is also known to present some other good-goodies like chocolate, rum, mezcal, and even a beer. Not to mention he's the the gentleman who got me into home coffee roasting, and who moderates that section (Coffee).

A bear of a man if you ask me.

I'd also like to point out that unlike most, Sleepy (Bearmark) posts here with no link to his own really fine website, an act of great respect and web morality that will surely serve him well at the pearly gates. We should all also be thankful that he also puts his tongue where his mouth is and has even linked "Save Caribbean Rum" at Bear Marks.

Accordingly I would like to take this opportunity to link and plug Mark's Bear Marks web blog (here). This gentleman who has shared so much here surely deserves that. As a personal note I find his reviews intriguing, extremely well written absolutely worth your time.

Sleepy, keep it up... and stay awake!

Ahem, thank you for the kind words - sadly, unjustified! But no, I'm just Sleepy - hence my need for coffee! I believe that the real Bear may go by the tag "bearmark" here :)

Ohmigod! I finally made a mistake - a big one!

Now I could toss out a bunch of simian excuses like: "I was up very late", "I read the wrong post", "I was confused between Bearman, Bearmark (actually "bearmark) and for some ungodly reason, Sleepy", but...

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

A total, unforgiveable and absolutely moose shit, monkified mistake. Like an idiot I facked up, and only to the extent a true idiot - indeed a Compleat Idiot - could possibly manage. It was a tour de faux! The only rather trivial saving grace (for which I desperately grasp) - is I had the great wisdom (actually superb luck) to have long ago named myself as the "Compleat Idiot of Rum", so such deviations from reality are expected. This was much more prescient than I'd have believed at the time, but in no way forgives my grievious and ridiculous error here and now. Thus...

A huge and sincere apology to...

Bearmark, er Bearmark, er Bearmark, nay to Bearmark!

I lay prostate and humble before this bear of a Mark who so richly deserves all the accolades I mistakenly bestowed on Sleepy. At the same time I am beholden to Sleepy to whom I also own an apology, for diluting his own considerable talent in producing top quality caffeinated writings here, and as the King of Koffee and Moderator of the Coffee section. Homebrewing of coffee is an art, and one of which he is well versed and capable.

Could I have possibly screwed up any worse? Don't answer that!

Capn's Special Log: The lesson to be learned is don't take your sleeping pill, then decide a night cap is in order. Let's be clear: Sleepy is not Bearmark. Bearmark is Mark Hebert, aka (duh) Bear Mark of uh, his own Bear Marks' site. By jove, I think I've got it....ergo, another deserved plug is now in order:

Bearmark's website, Bear Marks is here: a truly wonderful site that I encourage you to visit.

I had no idea that anyone really read my ramblings. Thanks for the plug and I hope my tasting notes (not really reviews yet) are useful to someone out there.

One more thing... I really do like coffee... no, "like" isn't quite strong enough. I tip my hat to Sleepy who has ventured far further down the coffee path than I have. I'm looking forward to roasting some beans at some point in the future, but for now I brew various Starbucks or independent roaster offerings in my Jura Impressa Z6 (the wife really likes the convenience).

Now, back to the rum... and whiskey!
