Pusser's New Rum's?

Post by Dai »

Since I use to water down Pusser's to my liking, the 40% might suit me better. I know Jimbo might have something to say about this but the 40% use to be around using a red label. So long as it will be available in the UK it will be good more choice is always good. Not sure what my reaction to the spiced one is yet it will depend on how they spice it, wheather it be natural spices or additives. This will need more investigation.

A great find...

No worries, as long as they don't fack with the product/blend, no matter. Of course, how hard is it to add a bit of water if so preferred, but who am I - or Ralfy - to say. Lots of great rums - eg the old MGXO, Appleton, Barbancourt are all loved at 40%. Maybe it's just that most of us simply discovered and came to love the old and classic higher-proof Blue Label. My gut tells me that Pussers will not change the components, just the proof.

But you will test that, I'm sure.

OTOH, there's a rough consensus that the sweet spot for whisky - and perhaps a rum like Pussers - is in the low 40's somewhere. Who is to say really, but when the crowd speaks, perhaps we should listen.

Perhaps seven years ago we found and bought a "Red Label" - 40% - down in Key Largo (Florida Keys). It didn't hold a candle to the usual Blue Label. A couple years later we had lunch with the son who of course treated us to Pussers for a few hours. We asked him about this bottle, to which he replied "...it was sort of a mistake" (paraphrased), but claimed it was the same blend.

We'll try it again momentarily and let you know...

If the price claim is correct @ £20ish for the new lower ABV Pusser's then it's worth me going for that instead of the normal strength @ £32. Just got to keep my eye out for it.

Hi Dai thank you for getting in touch with Pusser’s rum regarding the new 40%abv version.

Did you see/ taste it at Imbibe?

Fingers crossed the new stock should be in the UK and ready for all to order by late August/ early-September.

Can I ask the nature of your business please? Are you a bar, restaurant, club etc? And also who/ where do you buy your spirits from? This will help us make contact with your suppliers and inform them that you have an interest in stocking the new 40% Pusser’s rum.

I hope this makes sense and gives you the info you needed
