Give me a break Dept: the Frozen Wonder does it again...

Post by Capn Jimbo »

I try, I really do...

...and mostly succeed at ignoring the Shillery and the Frozen Furry One, but sometimes it just gets so deep that I feel forced to don a pair of hip boots and - darn - feel absolutley forced to relate...

Frozen Wonder:

"This is the review for the Blue Chair Bay White Rum, which according to the Blue Chair Bay Website is aged less than 100 feet from the high water line where there’s something about the sunlight and the wind on the water that gets into the oak casks and into every drop of Blue Chair Bay."
This is one of those celebrity rums, this one based on a country music star who apparently loves rum, so four different brands were created for him - three spiced and one white. Why in heaven's name would any reviewer regurgitate this kind of butt kissing bushwa? Will it never end?

The scientist in me is curious to know if they tested out their rum at different distances from the high water mark before they settled on less than 100 feet? Or maybe the Banana flavored rum is aged at 98 feet, the coconut at 95 feet, etc... thus accounting for the differences in flavor?

I guess I'll have to wait until they publish their findings in a peer reviewed journal...

This rum is actually produced by W.I.R.D.

The following link has a picture of the distillery location and the link states they produce this rum.

As we can see the beach is right next to the distillery. But 100 feet? I'm not sure that is just under 2/10ths of a mile. A bit of marketing but the fact remains the distillery is quite close to the water there. It could be possible but yet unproven that the barrels that age this are within 2/10ths of a mile from the shore.

The rum is shipped in bulk and bottled in Rochester, NY. While I can't endorse the flavored versions of this rum which are most certainly blended and dosed up in Rochester. The white version however is quite crisp clean, with a powerful bite and representative of the Bajan style of rum. I rated this over Mount gay silver but under The real McCoy 3 year white rum (foursquare).

I would disagree with the Howler because this rum is easily taken straight and its best qualities of the Bajan style are revealed this way. He states this is not smooth but rather it is there is just that classic flavorful spicy bite. The white rums many times best express the spirit and its natural vigor and flavor. While in no way one of the best white rums out there for its price it is not terrible and beats out many others I have tasted in the same market segment.
