Look, it's no surprise that the semi-commercial, butt licking websites that abound tend to cut 'n paste the marketing boyz bits, in return for a freebie. An alcoholic's dream. But seriously, some of them simply have no shame, to wit...
Of course the sales proposition is that this simply magnificent spirit is so incredibly special as it - gulp - even contains a bit of the original, 1927 wine! Incredible!! Oh yes. But let's do the math on the assumption that this solera really did stay in continuous business (sure), was never emptied or broken up or recoopered (sure) and removed say half a barrel each year since then.Wolf Dropping: "The Alvear Pedro Ximénez Solera 1927 wine is matured in a solera which was originally laid down in 1927, and therefore every bottle produced will have a tiny amount of the original wine from 1927."
First year - all of the spirit is from 1927
1928 - 1/2 of the withdrawal is from 1927
1929 - 1/4 is.
1930 - 1/8.
You get the picture. This is the exact opposite of exponential growth, called exponential decay. The formula is the inverse of 2 to the 86th (number of years) power, or:
1 divided by 77371252455336300000000000
Or..
0.000000000000000000000001% is from 1927.
That's about 23 zeros for those who are actually facking counting. Now any of you with a brain already know this is ridiculous, but let's really put this in perspective. Based on an estimated 16 drops of liquid per milliliter of spirit, just one drop of spirit in a bottle is...
0.0083% of the bottle.
Thus just a single drop is 8,333,333,333,333,330,000,000 times larger than the amount of 1927 spirit in this bottle. The amount of 1927 is therefore less than one millionth of one millionth of one millionth of a drop. Are we talking molecules yet? But apparently plenty for a thirsty wolf to sense. Seems like you'd get more by just waving a bottle of 1927 near the warehouse, lol ...
Flat Ass Bottom Line
I hate hype. I hate glacier water from the time of Christ. I hate diamond filtering. I hate seven fathom aging, and I hate the notion of "...a tiny amount of the original wine from 1927". And I have no respect for any "reviewer" who stoops to such sycophantic shillery. Have they no pride? Will they repeat anything they are told? Can't they just post an unbiased opinion? Seriously, just how far will they bend over?
You decide...

Capn's Note: Like Ralfy, I could care less about the label, the bottle or the marketing hype. Not a whit. Like Ralfy and others, I care about nothing more or less than the pure and unadulterated spirit, hopefully the loving product of an artist who cares only about the purity and quality of a drink rightfully called a spirit. Period.
